The Application Process

Overview

Hissbox Diversity Film Fund has one funding round per quarter, with a current deadline of November for this 2020 quarter.

We’re looking for exceptional stories by filmmakers from diverse backgrounds: stories with creative risks, inspire dialogue, and are rarely seen on public media.
Hissbox Diversity Film Fund (HDFF) gives producers up to $25,000 in funding for production of TV series, Feature Films and Documentaries.

HDFF has one funding round per quarter, with a current deadline of November for the 2020 round. All applications are to be submitted in English language

Who We Fund

Hissbox Diversity Film Fund (HDFF) supports:

  • Projects in development or preproduction

  • Projects in post-production in need of finishing fund 

  • Single, nonfiction or fiction of standard broadcast length (30, 60 or 90 minutes). 

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply if you:

  • Own 100% of the copyright of your production and maintain editorial control of the story.

  • Are not employed as a producer or director by a broadcast entity or film studio.

  • Have previous film or television production experience in a principal role: director, producer etc. Students are not eligible.

  • Have not previously applied for the HDFF funding within the funding quarter– we won’t review projects or submission from filmmakers with
    projects already under consideration.

  • A citizen or legal resident of any country – age 18 or older.

  • You have to be a Hissbox Subscriber to be able to submit our Grant Application.

You are not eligible to apply if you are:

  • Have received our grant within the same year.
  • Are a student.
  • Are signatories of any Hissbox production contracts that have not been completed or delivered.
  • Are a producer representing a political-based production entity.
  • Are an organization (i.e. University, Foundation, nonprofit organization).

What to Expect 

The Application

Elements of the application include a three (3) paged treatment, previously completed work link to a film publicly exhibited or distributed, resume with
filmography, and development budget. There is an optional field for sample footage to current project(s).

The Review Process

Once application is submitted, applicants will receive notification of status within three months. If selected, you will be asked to submit additional materials for your project.
